Chamas First Nations Art Society
Chamas is a First Nations Non-Profit Art Society with a heart. Chamas includes a store, an art studio, a carving shed and an old-fashioned coffee house for evening entertainment. I would just like to thank Susan and Art of EntreActive for their help in getting my life back on track after being lost in the bogs of retirement.
The objectives of the Society are:
----> To provide a safe and welcoming place for First Nations artists and carvers as well as for all visitors;
----> To build up a fair-trade network of First Nations artisans in North America;
----> To work with schools, colleges and universities in creating credit activities in business experience (volunteering), as well as
apprenticeships or shorter courses to learn First Nations carving, weaving, design, and other First Nations arts;
----> To provide a library and support for traditional ecological knowledge and environmental restoration and ethnobotany;
----> To create an on-line store for all items in the store along with information about each artist and their works;
----> To become an idea-mill for any person or group, providing support and guidance; and
----> To be a place where cultures can come together and share.

(Chamas is a Nootkan word meaning good, proper, and sweet. Candy and thin smoked salmon is also called chamas.)
